With its magnificent boreal forest, Mackinac Island hosts one of the best fall color displays in the country. The Grand Hotel’s Labor Day Jazz Festival straddles the island’s transition from late summer into early fall and offers three days of hot jazz with nationally known musicians.
Two biannual events mark September’s end, during the odd years, the Republican Party Convention returns the island to the political present while during the even years Mackinac Island’s early history is celebrated with the Festival of the Falling Leaves Moon. As the season winds down and the workers and horses leave the Island for their winters, October brings the Destination Dream Wedding Weekend where the Island rolls out the red carpet for families to come together to plan the nuptials of their to be newlyweds.
Finally, a fantastic Halloween celebration, complete with the Great Turtle Half Marathon and 5.7 mile run/walk around the Island which closes the season. Visit www.mackinacisland.org for more about the Island in the fall.
