Dan Pierson is a pianist, composer, educator, and music producer from Chicago, Il. He holds a BM in Jazz Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During his studies he performed with Greg Tuohey, Kevin Turner, Ron Bridgewater, Tito Carrillo, Chip McNeil, Champaign-Urbana Symphony, U of I Trombone Ensemble, and erhuist Yang Ying. Dan toured Beijing and Zhengzhou, China with Yang Ying in the Fall of 2011 and recently performed with the U of I Trombone Ensemble at the Conservatoire de Paris and the Jazz Educators Network Conference in Atlanta, GA.
In 2012 Dan relocated back to his hometown of Chicago, Il. Since then, he has been a contributing member to the jazz and improvised music scene. He is a member of R O O M S, which is an instrumental trio (piano, acoustic bass, and drums) that focuses on performing original compositions inspired by jazz, classical, indie rock, electronic, and beat driven styles of music. The trio recently recorded their debut album which is to be released on Aug 1, 2013. In addition to this main project, Dan actively performs in various bands in and around the Chicagoland area. He has appeared at Andy's Jazz Club, The Jazz Showcase, Millennium Park's Pritzker Pavilion, The Harris Theatre, Websters, Links Hall, and Bar Deville.
Dan's teachers include Emilio del Rosario, Alan Swain, Ron Perrillo, Joan Hickey, Marta Aznavoorian, William Heiles, Jeremy Kahn, John "Chip" Stephens, Donnie Heitler, Jim Pugh, among others.
Featuring Chris Doyle August 1 to 7
Chris Doyle is a jazz pianist from Seal Harbor, Maine. In 2011 he received a B.M. in Piano Performance from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and he is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Jazz Composition at McGill University in Montreal. This fall, Chris will return to McGill to complete his studies and to work as a course lecturer, teaching piano proficiency to undergraduate music students.
After finishing his degree at Berklee, Chris joined the Boston wedding and club band Downtown Fever. This past spring Chris went on tour with Brooklyn-based rock bands Harvey Eyeballs and Oscar Adams, playing primarily bass as they traveled the North Eastern and Mid-Western United States. In July of 2013 Chris released an album of original jazz music with his Montreal group, the Chris Doyle Onzetet. He spans many styles of music with his various projects, all of which continue to influence his solo work.
Chris is an international performer, recording artist, educator, composer and arranger. He works extensively in Boston, New York, Montreal and Maine. Chris has studied with many notable pianists including JoAnne Brackeen, Laszlo Gardony, Ray Santisi, and most recently, saxophonist Remi Bolduc.
